Why Iyengar Yoga may be right for you

North Shore Yoga classes are based on Iyengar yoga, which Is a dynamic form of Hatha yoga. The intention of Iyengar Yoga is to improve & maintain the quality of our lives.
It is a powerful antidote in addressing the stresses of modern day life, yoga is a practical philosophy that aims at uniting the body, mind & spirit for health & fulfillment.

A fit and supple body can be developed through the practice of the postures (asanas). Postures work on all the bodily systems, toning the muscles, stimulating the circulation & improving overall health. The benefits are not merely physical but also the techniques that are introduced help assist relaxation & breath control.

You will find that Iyengar yoga has the power to calm the mind, increase concentration & reduce stress.

  • Deal with chronic pain
  • Decrease arthritic pain
  • Build muscle tone and strength
  • Improve Stamina, flexibility, concentration and balance
  • Fight stiffness, hormonal fluctuations & depression
  • Realise that growth occurs through stillness
  • Become less vulnerable to illness & injury
  • Increase your general happiness
  • Complement all other aspects of your health & fitness

North Shore Yoga provides a relaxed, friendly and intimate environment for students. We use props (bolsters, blocks, blankets, straps and more) where necessary. This ensures that students are correctly positioned in the postures, and eliminates the potential for injury so often neglected by other styles of yoga. All of our teachers have trained for many years, and are fully Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers.
Yoga should not be competitive. Most injuries occur when students are pushed beyond their physical capabilities – be it through overcrowded classes, incorrect alignment, or a lack of understanding of the pose. Iyengar Yoga has many variations for each posture, each supported by props, to assist you with improving your practise.

Our qualified teachers will ensure that your individual needs are catered to, and you will gain a wealth of knowledge along the way. If you understand the pose, you are more likely to benefit from it!
So come and give North Shore Iyengar Yoga Centre a try!

Beginners 6 week courses are run every few months- check out the timetable for the next upcoming course

"Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they're meant to be."~ B.K.S. Iyengar.
